Harrogate Station

The Army Foundation College (AFC) is 2 miles from Harrogate, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. It is a training college for school-leavers wanting a career in the Infantry, Royal Armoured Corps, Royal Artillery and Royal Logistical Corps. The 50 week course includes military, leadership & initiative and vocational training.

Facilities at the AFC are state-of-the-art and include floodlit astroturf sports pitches, a huge swimming pool, tennis courts, all-weather cricket pitches and nets, a vast sports hall with a modern indoor climbing wall, a high-tech cardiovascular gym, indoor and outdoor shooting ranges, obstacle and high ropes courses, a cinema club, an internet café, a Junior Ranks Club and access to over 50 sports and recreational activities.

There is a NAAFI facility within AFC. The nearest local shops are at Killinghall Moor Estate (1.5 miles)
consisting of a Co-op, hairdressers, Post Office, newsagent, and off licence. There is a huge range of shops in Harrogate and further afield in York.

There are two Barracks at Harrogate - Uniacke Barracks (housing the AFC) and Hildebrand Barracks. Unit facilities include a gymnasium (open to all), swimming pool (open to all), Learn Direct Centre, pre-school/crèche, community centre/Mums and Toddlers/youth centre (guides and rainbows), NAAFI shop, café, barbers and cash machines.
